Breaststroke
Here are the basics for swimming Breaststroke.
Instead of rotation, we have undulation (up and down movement, like a wave).
Eyes should stay looking at the bottom of the pool (head/neck should remain inline with spine).
Overall timing: start pull, take a breath, shoot hands back forward, kick, then glide.
Every stroke cycle starts and ends with arms/hands extended out infront of body and feet together.
Every stroke cycle gets one pull, one breath, and one kick.
Breaststroke Kick Specifics
FLAT FEET, do not point toes.
Bend knees, bring feet toward surface, make a circle motion and bring feet back together.
I tell my swimmers up, out, and around. The goal is to push water with the inside of the foot, not the top.
Breaststroke (arms) specifics
Arms start infront of body.
Pull hands out in a circle motion at the same time, and turn them around when they hit the chest, extending arms forward.
Hands do not come out of the water.
Breathing
When hands start to pull, body should come out of water slightly and that's where a breath should be taken.
